The nervous system has long been a practice incorporated into my trauma work. Through a natural evolution of learning, I’ve added an expansion beyond the physiology of one to many. In counseling, one state at a time is explored and often misunderstood to mean that there is little to no overlap of symptoms or that it’s a hierarchy integrated into a window of tolerance (capacity).
Symptoms are integrated through returning, rhythm, and relationship. I was inspired to create the spiral to support therapists and clients to not just know their nervous system, but to feel it. To speak its language in rhythm with clients, not correction. It’s a shift from climbing out of states to a gentle expansion and contraction with natural rhythms and flow within and with others, in community.
This is how we build a trauma conscious world hungry for connection. Community care where we don’t stop at Maslow’s hierarchy but continue on as the Diné people intended. Interested in learning more? I have more in my Trauma Conscious Minutes trainings!
